Press Release: The Loading Dock Becomes a Certified B Corporation

The Loading Dock, an award-winning coworking community based in North Carolina, has officially become a Certified B Corporation. Certified B Corporations (B Corps) are companies that have completed a demanding assessment process to prove that they meet high standards for environmental and social impact.

The Loading Dock is a mission-driven company that is guided by the principle of “Do well. Do good. Better Together.” The Loading Dock believes that as companies thrive, they have the opportunity to also do good in the world; and together, we all rise.

“Empowering entrepreneurs and serving our community are values that energize everything we do at The Loading Dock,” said Philip Freeman, The Loading Dock’s Founder & CEO. “We are proud to be a Certified B Corporation and are thrilled to have joined a movement that shares our commitment to using business as a force for good.”

In addition to building diverse and collaborative work communities, the North Carolina-based coworking company has long engaged in socially-conscious business practices such as giving two percent of its revenue to non-profits in the Triangle and making a commitment to purchase from local businesses to strengthen the local economy and support small business.

The Loading Dock hosted its first annual Doing Others Good Gala in 2022 for Gabi’s, an organization that empowers individuals with special abilities through employment. Becoming a B Corp underscores The Loading Dock’s core belief that businesses can succeed when they focus on making a difference, and the gala was a collaboration of businesses that came alongside this mission to support and uplift the mission of Gabi’s.

The company’s B Corp Certification is the culmination of its partnership with the NC State B Corp Clinic. The NC State B Corp Clinic pairs companies with a group of student consultants from North Carolina colleges and universities who help businesses complete the B Impact Assessment. The B Impact Assessment is a rigorous survey that aspiring B Corps must complete and pass with a minimum score of 80 out of 200. The survey measures a company's impact in five areas: environment, community, customers, workers and governance.

The Loading Dock not only passed the B Impact Assessment but also received high scores in the areas of community, workers and customers.

To celebrate its B Corp Certification The Loading Dock is hosting three workshops in partnership with B Local to promote B Corp Movement.  The first workshop, entitled B Corp Series: Corporate Responsibility 101, will be held on March 16th at The Loading Dock’s Beryl Road location.
